Day 1 of remodel with Alaska's K& W Interiors

The demolition man came for 5.5 hours.  He arrived on time.  He took out the rest of the kitchen and opened the ceiling for range hood duct and electrical work.  He also tore out the old fireplace mantle.  Ce' and I did 3 loads to the dump.  I found out the new windows in my condo are not insulated; at least the kitchen is not.  My house is in total construction mode.  It is a bit anxiety provoking knowing how much work lays ahead of me to get this place looking good, but there is no turning back now!

Ready to tear out the kitchen!

K&W Interiors called last Friday and actually were able to start the remodel for tomorrow, Monday!  This is a lucky break.  Ce' and I tore out 80% of the kitchen today to try and save some money.  It won't save much but at this point, every penny counts!  Tomorrow the studs will come down and the rest of the lower cabinets will be taken out along with the rest of the ancient appliances.  Once that is done, the new cabinets will go in and we will be well on our way to a modern, updated kitchen inspired by Swedish design.

I ordered wallpaper yesterday for one focal wall in the living room.  It is a retro damask.

All moved in...

Am all moved in and now waiting for the renovation to start!  Here is the dining room light I ordered last night.

Here is the kitchen overhead light:

Next is the sink and facuet recently ordered.

It all seems to be coming together.  If they do not work well together, then it could be cumbersome having to ship items back to the lower 48 and shipping new items here.  It HAS to work!

New condo!

I now own the condo so let the remodel begin!  The painters come in the morning.  The entire place will be painted white.  Sherwin Williams Extra White SW7006.  It is a dark condo so it needs white walls.  Plus, it goes in line with my inspiration of modern Swedish design.  The kitchen countertops will be "apple martini" quartz.  See color below.

Here is a lamp I bought at Scan Home in Anchorage.  It should look nice over the white leather couch.

Now for the ugggllyyy:

Note the popcorn ceiling and seafoam walls.  The walls from the kitchen to the living room will be knocked down in order to open it up.  The fireplace will be completely ripped out.  I ran out of money because the kitchen, new floors, and paint topped me out at $47,000!!  So, my contractor will make the fireplace very basic for now with mosaic tile around the fireplace.  I will not have a mantle and will put the flat screen above it.  I still need to buy new doors and change out the electrical outlets but I can do that with each paycheck that comes in.  This remodel does NOT include the 1.5 baths that need gutting.  All in due time.  But then it will be completely new and I will have a beautiful place to come home to every day.

I head to Virginia tomorrow night to see Yotti and mom.  I will pick up the round 8 foot rug I shipped there and hope I like it well enough to ship to Alaska!
